Put It To Good Re-Use LA!
by Joyce Amaro, LA Stormwater Public Education Manager
The improving weather of the past few weeks (this past weekend doesn’t count!) keeps reminding us all that spring is here! And, for many of us, spring is also a reminder that there are a few home improvement projects that we told ourselves we’d tackle once the weather got warmer.
For me, it’s cleaning out my two-car garage. I’m not sure when exactly our garage became so filled with stuff that parking even one vehicle inside is a challenge, but I made the promise to myself – and my family – that a clean garage would be a priority this year. Time for some serious spring cleaning at the Amaro house!
But as I began looking around the garage, I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with everything that had been piling up over the past 10 years. I knew I didn’t have the time or the energy to organize a yard sale. I didn’t want to deal with putting items up for sale online, and I most certainly wasn’t going to throw away gently used baby items or clothes.
Then I remembered that LA Sanitation has a great online resource that suited my spring cleaning needs perfectly. Their directory of donation opportunities entitled Put It To Good Re-Use LA! is a listing of non-profit organizations throughout Southern California that will accept everything from furniture to clothing to unused personal care items. Check it out!
With this resource and lots of sunny weather ahead, I’ll have our garage cleaned out by the end of April…or maybe I’ll go for a bike ride along the beach instead…or take a hike in the hills…or
